It is adequate...maybe

The UK approach to personal data is sufficient to enable a declaration of equivalence the European Commission announced this past week. However, the confirmation that data can continue to travel unhindered between the EU/EEA and the UK came with some pretty hefty caveats about how the EC would react if the UK subsequently moved away from its existing legislative and regulatory approach to handling the personal data of EU citizens.

The UK welcomed the move, suggesting it would underpin ongoing digital services across borders. One has to assume that it also facilitates the transfer of data in industries that are heavy users, such as asset management.
